The long history of excellence of Colorificio Tirreno:
Pioneers of the sector in almost 80 years of history
Colorificio Tirreno has a fascinating history that reflects the evolution of Italy’s post-war industry. Founded in 1946 by Angiolo Bini and other partners, the company was born as a direct response to the reconstruction needs of war-torn Italy. Angiolo Bini, originally from Livorno, had left his job maintaining boilers for warships to embark on a new path as a seller of building materials, with a focus on paints.
The first step toward the creation of Colorificio Tirreno occurred when Bini, during a meeting with a client, noticed a single-cylinder paint production refiner. This encounter was the spark that led to the foundation of the company. Initially, there were five partners, but among them, Bini and Luigi Checcacci, the brother-in-law of one of the original partners, became the main figures by purchasing the shares of the other partners.
At the beginning, the company focused on producing anti-rust paints, particularly Lead Minio, a highly demanded but hard-to-find product. Operating in a small workshop in La Spezia, Colorificio Tirreno quickly grew, requiring the hiring of new workers and staff, and the move to a larger facility.
The move to a 3,000 square meter plot in Via Vappa marked a crucial turning point, allowing the company to significantly expand its production capacity. In the 1970s, the company continued to grow, acquiring another larger plot of land and three warehouses. The second generation, represented by Gian Checcacci and Adelchi Serafini, took over in the 1970s, transforming the company from an SNC to an SPA.
In 1995, the acquisition of the Ottazzi brand represented another important step, allowing Colorificio Tirreno to expand its client portfolio and solidify its position in the market. In the 2000s, the company began a gradual transfer of production from La Spezia to Ceparana, continuing to evolve to meet the needs of both professionals and private individuals.
The third generation began entering the company in 1998 with Davide Serafini, who took over the production department, and in 2008 with Edoardo Valli and Simone Serafini, who respectively took care of the commercial and administrative sectors. In 2015, the third generation definitively took the reins of the company, leading it to celebrate its 70th anniversary.
This story not only celebrates the growth and success of Colorificio Tirreno, but also the company’s ability to adapt and innovate, always staying attentive to the needs of its customers and market developments.
Today, Colorificio Tirreno is preparing to celebrate an extraordinary milestone: 80 years of activity. This anniversary represents not only a moment of reflection on the company’s long and rich history, but also an opportunity to celebrate its continuous growth and significant presence in the paint industry in Italy and abroad.
With around 600 active clients, both nationally and internationally, Colorificio Tirreno has built a solid reputation, recognized for the quality and reliability of its products. The company’s ability to evolve and adapt to market needs, combined with a strong commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, has allowed it to maintain a prominent position in the industry for nearly a century.
This important milestone testifies to the dedication and passion of three generations who have carried on the legacy that began in 1946, continuing to expand the sales network and solidify the Colorificio Tirreno brand as synonymous with excellence in the world of paints.
